Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has extended his contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2030, the club announced on Friday. At just 21 years old, Musiala has already become a pivotal figure for both club and country, amassing nearly 200 appearances for Bayern.
“I took my first steps in professional football here, and I firmly believe we can achieve something big with this club in the coming years,” Musiala said in a statement. “We’ve got a lot of things we want to achieve. I’m excited for everything that’s to come.”
The announcement came a day before Bayern’s crucial Bundesliga clash with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern currently leads the league, sitting eight points ahead of second-placed Leverkusen with 13 games remaining.
According to German tabloid Bild, Musiala’s new contract includes a two-tier release clause. The clause is reportedly set at €175 million ($183 million) two years before the contract expires, dropping to €100 million in the final year. Under the new deal, Musiala is expected to become one of Bayern’s highest earners, alongside England captain Harry Kane, with a salary of €25 million per season.
Musiala’s previous contract, extended in 2021, was set to expire in 2026. Born in Stuttgart, Musiala began his career in Chelsea’s academy and represented England at youth level before switching his allegiance to Germany in 2021 at the age of 17. Since then, he has earned 38 caps for Germany, scoring seven goals.
Musiala joined Bayern in the summer of 2019 and made his first-team debut in June 2020, becoming the club’s youngest-ever Bundesliga player at the time. Although he did not feature in the 2020 Champions League final, where Bayern defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 to claim their sixth European title, he has since grown into a key player for the team.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl praised Musiala as “one of the most coveted players in the world,” adding that he “is shaping the present at Bayern and will also shape the future.” Eberl emphasized that Musiala’s commitment sends a strong message about Bayern’s ambitions: “Players like him allow us to send out a clear message to everyone that Bayern are a force to be reckoned with in the future.”
Musiala has emerged as the natural successor to Thomas Müller in Bayern’s attacking midfield and is increasingly becoming the face of the club. This season, he is on track for his most productive campaign yet, with 15 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions—just one short of his total from the 2022-23 season.
